What to expect...
Before meeting in person, we will visit by phone about what concerns and goals you have and to see if I would be a good fit for you and your partner. Once the first appointment has been scheduled, you and your significant other will each need to complete your own set of forms on this website.
In the beginning of our work, I meet with both of you together to hear what brings you to couples counseling. Then I meet with each of you separately to find out more about your family background and relationship history. Couples have the option to have longer sessions (i.e. An hour and 15 minutes) so as to have adequate time for processing and closure each time we meet.
Moving forward, we will work toward the goals which we have all agreed to address, focusing on understanding your relationship dynamics and how to grow closer as a couple. The models I use in couples work incude Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) , Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Relational Life Therapy. In addition, I suggest relevant reading and/or exercises to do between sessions in order to reinforce new ideas and experiences in between sessions.
My style is empathic and engaged, working to help couples manage conflict, repair and strengthen their bond and build shared meaning with one another. I strive to maintain a balance between following and supportively leading each of you in changing your relationship 'dance'. In our work together, it is my deepest desire that you each feel more accessible, responsive and emotionally engaged with one another and find hope and healing in your relationship.
