What to expect...

Before meeting in person, we will visit by phone about what concerns and goals you have and to see if I would be a good fit for you and your partner. Once the first appointment has been scheduled, you and your significant other will each need to complete your own set of forms on this website.  

In the beginning of our work, I meet with both of you together to hear what brings you to couples counseling. Then I meet with each of you separately to find out more about your personal/family history and each of your goals for couples work. 

Moving forward, we will work toward the goals which we have all agreed to address. Goals may include some or all of the following:  focusing on understanding your relationship dynamics, improving communication and/or growing closer as a couple. The models I use in couples work incude Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)  and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.  In addition,  I suggest relevant reading and/or exercises to do between sessions in order to reinforce new ideas and experiences in between sessions.

My style is empathic and engaged, working to help couples communicate with one another in healthy ways and potentially repair and strengthen their bond.  I strive to maintain a balance between following and supportively leading each of you in changing your relationship 'dance'. In our work together, it is my deepest desire that you each find hope and healing for yourselves and in your relationship.
